Scottish Primary School Championships Saturday 3rd February 2024
– On Saturday morning I went along to support Oscar Cullen at the PS Championships at Bathgate Academy.
-Oscar has only been playing table tennis about 6/7 months, initially during the summer at EK Pop in & Play and then more recently at the club.
– He wanted to compete and test his recently acquired skills and this seemed the best place to do so.
– The standard of player was good and a great platform for any young player to compete.
– On the day this was a challenge and one Oscar embraced, enjoyed and met new friends.
– He will have learned lots from this experience and will have benefited from having met this challenge.
– I would say this event showcases the grassroots of table tennis and it was encouraging to see not only many players from the established clubs but players from clubs around the country such as Dunbar and Shetland to name a few.
– This sport is on the up.
– The school hall had 40+ young boys/girls and at one point you could have heard a pin drop.
– The players all concentrating on tasks in hand whether that was playing or umpiring.
– Events like this inspire me to continue being involved with this sport. Well done Oscar !!!
Friday Club Night
– We just managed to get everyone on a table on Friday night and that’s a challenge I will always welcome.
– Do we need to extend the hall and increase the numbers of tables we have at present?
– This is maybe something we are going to have to consider going forward.
– Thanks to Brendan, John W, Keith, Tommy McG, George N and Achint for their support.
