Friday Club Night
– Stephen Gertsen delivered another great training session on Friday night.
– It is very difficult for a coach to pitch a 2 hour session just right with the range of ages and mixed abilities that we have at our club but for me he had it spot on.
– The feedback has been great.
– I thought everyone engaged in the session and although some of the drills were challenging the player’s tried to meet that challenge which is all you can ask.
– Thanks to everyone who helped to setup and dismantle the equipment before and after our session.
– Maybe we’ll see Stephen again later in the year, he certainly inspired us all I’m sure.
– Thanks to Chris, Keith and Yan for their support.

– Thanks to Keith who uplifted 4 umpire tables that we had purchased from Table Tennis Scotland.
– The tables had been stored at Bell’s Sports Centre in Perth and Keith collected them this week on his way home from his travels up north.👏👏👏

Pop In & Play
– At Pop in & Play we have recently discovered the number of charities and support groups who use our facility.
– Many use it on a weekly basis some whenever the weather is not great but this week we welcomed Covey Befriending.
– A group who support young adults with special needs.
– We had a great night and pleased that the group enjoyed their time too.
– Our volunteers support many people (Mon -Fri 11-2pm ) some on their own and some who just enjoy a game of table tennis before, during or after lunch.
– The Parkinson Session ( Mon 2-3pm ) has also shown the benefits of exercise and in particular table tennis for people with this condition.

Club News – 22nd Apr 2024

Sunday 21st April Dunlop Junior Cup U13’s and U19’s
– Pleased to see two club players getting the opportunity to compete at this event.
– Andrew playing U19’s at his first competitive competition and Oscar U13’s at just his second event.

U19’s Singles
– U19’s In his first group match Andrew played well in what was a tight match, just losing out 1-3.
– Whilst in the second match, his opponent was too strong (eventual U19’s winner) losing 0-3.
– The third match after a good start Andrew continued to dominate the match eventually winning 3-0 which was a great result.

U19’s Doubles
– In the doubles group stages Andrew and his partner had a good start playing well and winning their first two matches.
– However in the final group match they lost 1-3 (to eventual U19’s double winners).
– Onto the semi-final stage they didn’t start very well and at 0-2 it looked as if there was only going to be one winner.
– However both players responded and levelled the match at 2-2.
– In the final game it could have gone either way at 9-9.
– Unfortunately it wasn’t to be and there opponents secured a 9-11 win.
– A great effort by both players who had little practice but developed a good understanding as doubles player’s as they progressed.
– Well done to Andrew at his first event.
– Great to see him grow in confidence the more he played.

U13’s
– A great start by Oscar in his first group match winning comfortably 3-0.
– In the second match against a better opponent he played very well
to win 3-1.
– In the third and final match he faced a stronger opponent again but despite playing well he missed out this time losing 1-3.
– As a result of his second place in the group he progressed to the quarter-final were he faced the most difficult opponent yet losing out 3-0.

U13’s Doubles
– Oscar and his doubles partner started very well in their group matches winning their first two matches 3-0.
– In the final doubles match despite playing well they lost out 1-3.
– A place in the semi-final was secure.
– However they showed signs of tiredness as they struggled against their semi final opponents and lost out 0-3.
– Oscar has learned a lot since his first event and made good progress and that was in evidence today.
– We thank Martin and his support team at Dunlop TTC for the invite and organising the event which was ideal for both our players.
