Coming Soon – EK Pop In & Play

In partnership with Table Tennis Scotland (TTS), East Kilbride Table Tennis Club (EKTTC) will open the first Pop In & Play table tennis venue in the region in late March or early April 2023.

Located in Centre West, East Kilbride, the venue will be supervised by local volunteers to offer shopping centre customers the chance to pick up a bat and play for free between 11am and 1pm Monday to Friday. If the demand is there and we can attract a sufficient number of volunteers, there are plans to expand the offering to cover more hours and days.

EKTTC are also in conversation with several community-based organisations to understand how the facility can be used to offer sessions and events tailored to meet the needs of the people served by those groups.

“This is the culmination of over 4 years work and focus, which was severely impacted by the pandemic, and we are delighted to have got this over the line”, said Brendan Faulds, Chair & Coach at East Kilbride Table Tennis Club. He continued, “The club has been an active part of the East Kilbride sporting landscape for over 45 years, nurturing junior players and producing some top Scottish talent during that period. This venue gives us the opportunity to support the community in a much broader sense as well as encouraging people to return to the sport or to take it up for the first time. We want to thank East Kilbride Shopping Centre for their support in helping us achieve this milestone and to Sporting Memories Scotland who are helping us shape our offering for them and for other community groups, to help them use the venue to achieve their aims and maximise their benefit from it”.

EKTTC will announce the official opening date in the next couple of weeks.

Sorry for the delayed post…

Hi Everyone,

Friday Night
– Good session on Friday night (25th Nov).
– Thanks to Bill and Keith for their support.
– From Friday 2nd December we will reduce the size of the hall we use at JWSC by half.

North Ayrshire Open Sunday 27th November
– Thomas Nevin went along to his first table tennis competition today.
– It’s a big step for any young player and I thought Thomas did very well.
– In a group of 4, he won his first match and narrowly lost out on the next two matches.
– He competed very well in both the matches he lost and to be honest they could have gone either way.
– I suggested he just enter one event at this time and unfortunately that meant he had no further matches.
– However he will have learnt so much from today and will be keen to get practicing for his next competition.

– From Friday 2nd December we will reduce the size of the hall we use by half.

Edinburgh Banded Bathgate Academy Sunday 20th November 10 am start
– Both Euan and Gary went along to the event to get plenty of game time and they certainly got that.
– Each group had 9 players which meant 8 matches for both of them.
– They won some and lost some playing players of all ages, styles and abilities.
– It was a long day but one that they both enjoyed.

Duncanrig HS
– I went along to the school lunchtime club on Thursday.
– A small club of 12 players on the day.
– All keen to play the game and not there to muck around which was good to see.
– I offered some tips and advice and will follow up with additional information.
– I’m always made to feel welcome at the school anytime I’ve paid them a visit.
