An EKTTC Club Mobile App?

What do you think of the club developing a Mobile App for members, volunteers and supporters of the club?

It is very doable these days with the technology available but it would be important to put some thought into what functionality we would want to have in it.

For example, club info, an events calendar, coaching guides, etc

Or is what we have on the web site, facebook & twitter enough?

We would love to build anything new with your input and your ideas. We are gathering responses to this on the Facebook page over the next couple of weeks, so please let us know there or face to face at the club.

Remember, there is no such thing as a bad idea!

East Kilbride Open 2018 – as it happened!

EK Open 2018 AMC – Saturday 19th May

U11 Winner: Diarmid; Runner Up: Thomas

  • One group consisting of Thomas, Diarmid, Ans, Ayaan.
  • Good to see players playing well and giving it their best effort.
  • Diarmid and Thomas having more experience dominated the group and as a result their match would decide group winner.
  • Well done to Diarmid who took the honours and Thomas who played his part.
  • Ayaan and Ans in their first season have made good progress and will benefit from regular events.

U13 Winner: Bobby; Runner Up: Diarmid

Group 1: Bobby, Ben, Diarmid.

Great to see Ben meeting the challenge of Diarmid and Bobby in this group. On this occasion it was Bobby and Diarmid who progressed to next stage but Ben has improved in recent months and that showed in a very close match with Diarmid losing out 2-3.

Group 2: Ashton, Ross, Cameron.

Ashton winning against Ross meant both progressed as Cameron unfortunately withdrew unwell.

Semi Finals
Bobby v Ross

Good effort by Ross against Bobby a player in good form. 3-0.

Ashton v Diarmid

Difficult match to call as both players were playing well but it was Diarmid who gained the momentum to win the match 0-3.

Final Bobby v Diarmid
Both players in good form and playing well were showing signs of tiredness but they produced a good final.
At 1-1 both players looked capable of taking the match. Diarmid won the next game to take the lead but Bobby took command of next two games to win the match 3-2.

U18 Winner: Achint; Runner Up: Luke

Group 1: Luke, Jack, Bobby
Luke played very well to beat two improved players in Jack and Bobby. Bobby beating Jack to progress to next stage.
Group 2: Achint, Robbie, Ellis
Achint was determined he wasn’t missing out on next stage beating both players. Robbie made it out of group stage by beating Ellis.
Semi Finals
Luke  v Robbie
Close match in which Robbie played very well but Luke managed to keep in front at key moments in match 3-0.
Achint v Bobby
Bobby played against Achint who was in good form and he continued to impress winning 3-0.
Final Achint v Luke
Another classic match between these two with some great rallies and excellent play.
Achint took a deserved 2-0 lead however Luke with some great play levelled the match at 2-2.
Luke started well in final game until Achint upped his game and went on to win the match 3-2.
Well done to both players for a thoroughly entertaining and engrossing match.

Doubles Winners: Bobby/Ben; Runners Up: Robbie/ Diarmid

Well done Bobby/Ben who deservedly won the doubles without losing a match.
However 3 teams tied for 2nd spot Achint/Cameron, Robbie/Diarmid and Ross/Thomas.
After a countback all teams were still level with W3-L2. It took further analysis before we split the teams with Robbie/Diarmid coming out on top to take the Runners Up spot.

Thanks

Many thanks to Brendan for his assistance, players and everyone else who came along to support the event.
Peter.

Anna Hursey – worth a listen

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b1q5n3

Anna Hursey has been playing table tennis for as long as she can remember and has managed to combine her school work with extended trips to train in China,
where her mother is from and across Europe, where she can challenge herself against the top players. Her success has been remarkable and as her family prepare
for the Commonwealth Games they reflect on what it means longer term and how Anna might continue to straddle the world in her quest to compete at the 2020 Olympics.

Thanks

  • To Brendan, Euan, Chris and Bill on Friday night.
  • To Robbie Maitland for support on Tuesday night.
