An EKTTC Club Mobile App?

What do you think of the club developing a Mobile App for members, volunteers and supporters of the club?

It is very doable these days with the technology available but it would be important to put some thought into what functionality we would want to have in it.

For example, club info, an events calendar, coaching guides, etc

Or is what we have on the web site, facebook & twitter enough?

We would love to build anything new with your input and your ideas. We are gathering responses to this on the Facebook page over the next couple of weeks, so please let us know there or face to face at the club.

Remember, there is no such thing as a bad idea!

East Kilbride Open 2018 – as it happened!

EK Open 2018 AMC – Saturday 19th May

U11 Winner: Diarmid; Runner Up: Thomas

  • One group consisting of Thomas, Diarmid, Ans, Ayaan.
  • Good to see players playing well and giving it their best effort.
  • Diarmid and Thomas having more experience dominated the group and as a result their match would decide group winner.
  • Well done to Diarmid who took the honours and Thomas who played his part.
  • Ayaan and Ans in their first season have made good progress and will benefit from regular events.

U13 Winner: Bobby; Runner Up: Diarmid

Group 1: Bobby, Ben, Diarmid.

Great to see Ben meeting the challenge of Diarmid and Bobby in this group. On this occasion it was Bobby and Diarmid who progressed to next stage but Ben has improved in recent months and that showed in a very close match with Diarmid losing out 2-3.

Group 2: Ashton, Ross, Cameron.

Ashton winning against Ross meant both progressed as Cameron unfortunately withdrew unwell.

Semi Finals
Bobby v Ross

Good effort by Ross against Bobby a player in good form. 3-0.

Ashton v Diarmid

Difficult match to call as both players were playing well but it was Diarmid who gained the momentum to win the match 0-3.

Final Bobby v Diarmid
Both players in good form and playing well were showing signs of tiredness but they produced a good final.
At 1-1 both players looked capable of taking the match. Diarmid won the next game to take the lead but Bobby took command of next two games to win the match 3-2.

U18 Winner: Achint; Runner Up: Luke

Group 1: Luke, Jack, Bobby
Luke played very well to beat two improved players in Jack and Bobby. Bobby beating Jack to progress to next stage.
Group 2: Achint, Robbie, Ellis
Achint was determined he wasn’t missing out on next stage beating both players. Robbie made it out of group stage by beating Ellis.
Semi Finals
Luke  v Robbie
Close match in which Robbie played very well but Luke managed to keep in front at key moments in match 3-0.
Achint v Bobby
Bobby played against Achint who was in good form and he continued to impress winning 3-0.
Final Achint v Luke
Another classic match between these two with some great rallies and excellent play.
Achint took a deserved 2-0 lead however Luke with some great play levelled the match at 2-2.
Luke started well in final game until Achint upped his game and went on to win the match 3-2.
Well done to both players for a thoroughly entertaining and engrossing match.

Doubles Winners: Bobby/Ben; Runners Up: Robbie/ Diarmid

Well done Bobby/Ben who deservedly won the doubles without losing a match.
However 3 teams tied for 2nd spot Achint/Cameron, Robbie/Diarmid and Ross/Thomas.
After a countback all teams were still level with W3-L2. It took further analysis before we split the teams with Robbie/Diarmid coming out on top to take the Runners Up spot.

Thanks

Many thanks to Brendan for his assistance, players and everyone else who came along to support the event.
Peter.

Anna Hursey – worth a listen

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0b1q5n3

Anna Hursey has been playing table tennis for as long as she can remember and has managed to combine her school work with extended trips to train in China,
where her mother is from and across Europe, where she can challenge herself against the top players. Her success has been remarkable and as her family prepare
for the Commonwealth Games they reflect on what it means longer term and how Anna might continue to straddle the world in her quest to compete at the 2020 Olympics.

Thanks

  • To Brendan, Euan, Chris and Bill on Friday night.
  • To Robbie Maitland for support on Tuesday night.

Ladder Competition – 11th May

Well, another exciting Competition Night in East Kilbride!

With a combination last time of Diarmid & Thomas promoted from Ladder B, Robbie & Cameron relegated from Ladder A and several no-shows tonight, we decided to consolidate to one Ladder for tonight’s competition. This meant more in the ladder, but also a need to relegate 4 back to Ladder B at the end of the night. A lot to play for! So here’s how it started and finished:

20180511-Ladder A-Starting Positions
Starting Positions 11th May 2018
20180511-Ladder A-Ending Positions
Ending Positions 11th May 2018

All of which means that below is where we start on both Ladders next time round:

20180511-Ladder A-Next Starting Positions
Ladder A – Starting Position for June 2018
20180511-Ladder B-Next Starting Positions
Ladder B – Starting Position for June 2018

This is creating a strong competitive element in the club and generated more interest in our East Kilbride Open competition. Our aim is to stimulate this further so that, as a club, we have a much stronger competitive edge when it comes to next year’s West of Scotland Junior League and Challenge matches.

Our next Ladder Competition night will be in June before we break for the summer.

Club News – 9th May 2018

  • However we will still remain at JWSC in Hall 3 for our Tuesday and Friday training nights.
  • As noted above, the EK Open on Saturday 19th May has been moved to AMC.

Training Camp

Club News – 29th April 2018

Friday Club Night

  • Next Friday 4th May, we continue our 2 hour sessions from 7.30pm- 9.30pm – this week is Multiball.
  • Pleased with response of players on Friday night to footwork session organised by Euan and Jennie.
  • A challenging session that pushed the players to give of their best.
  • Well done to all players.

East Kilbride Open Competition

  • Please note next club competition EK Open Saturday on 19th May 2018.
  • Entry Form can be found here. Closing date 11th May.
  • Only a few entries received – don’t leave entries until the last minute or you maybe miss out.
  • Jack Regan to return U18 EK Open Shield next Friday 27th April.

Hamilton Grammar

  • I went along to Hamilton Grammar for a short visit on Tuesday to TT lunchtime club.
  • I met up with Active Schools Clare Murphy, Mr.Dyett (PE teacher) and pupils attending the club.
  • PE teachers seem to be very keen on table tennis and appear to have a good understanding of the sport.
  • As a result this helps them to guide pupils who select TT as a sport through Nat 5 exams.
  • I was also impressed with all 16 pupils in attendance (including club player Robbie McKenzie) making the effort at lunchtime to take at least 6 TT tables upstairs
to a gym hall using a lift and then setting up for 30 mins of TT before returning tables. I wonder how many other school pupils would make that effort at lunchtime.
  • Looking forward to my next visit.

EK Sports Council Awards

  • Delighted to have received East Kilbride Sports Council Coach of the Year 2017 on Saturday night at EK Village theatre.

EK Coach of the Year 2018

  • I feel it also recognises the strides EKTTC has made in the past year.
  • Thanks to Chris McKenna who nominated me for this award and to everyone for their kind comments.

East Kilbride Development Funding Forum

  • Brendan has agreed to do a presentation on our successful Awards for All funding application for the benefit of other clubs in the town.
  • The presentation will take place on Monday evening (30th April) at East Kilbride Sports Club along with David Eadie from EK Rugby Club.

NOTE: This meeting was postponed and will be rescheduled again in the future.

Coaches – worth a read
