Our longest standing club supporter, Bill Cummings, has kindly put fingers to the keyboard to document some of his valuable insight on Table Tennis Blades, Rubbers and “jargon busting”.
Bill is our “bat master” and regularly supports members with the fitting of new rubbers, etc. Between him and Peter, our Head Coach we have successfully built up a small collection of test bats which allow members to try and test different kinds before you buy.
A lot of the knowledge is captured in this document. (it’s in the Useful Information section of our Key Club Documents page).
Have a read and if it raises any questions, please feel free to chat to Bill or Peter about it when you next see them.
Friday Club Night – Another good session on Friday night with a couple of new faces along to join us which was good. – Thanks to Brendan, Bill and Keith for support.
Table Tennis Scotland Invite – Chris and I enjoyed a great weekend at Inverclyde observing two top coaches – Ryan Jenkins (Wales) and Alan Cooke (England). – Lots of good tips and advice from both coaches on how to go about improving player performance. – Also good to see the best of Scotland’s talent being challenged throughout this National training camp.
EKTTC Challenge Matches – We are looking to set up some challenge matches with other clubs. – If you could let me know if you would be interested in participating, that would be great. – I think it would be good for players of all levels to have the opportunity to challenge other players of same or similar standard to improve their game. – Once we have an understanding of whose interested we will make contact with the clubs.
AMC – Tuesday Club Night – We are still pushing for a restart date at Alistair McCoist Complex but at the moment we still have no idea when this will happen.

Club Captain – Congratulations to our new club captain Achint Makesh who was voted in by our club members. – The coaches and players look forward to working with Achint over the next year.
Parent Representative – We also welcome Kirsty Melarkey to our committee as Parent Representative. – Kirsty very kindly put herself forward for the role. – We at the club see the need for someone to put forward the parents perspective and to gather parents feedback or their concerns. – Many parents don’t always have the opportunity to speak to coaches and speaking to Kirsty offers an additional channel for this.
Selecting a new TT Bat can be a challenge but help is available! – Bill Cummings has put together two documents on his thoughts and experience on selecting blades and rubbers for our club players and coaches. – When choosing a new made up bat or selecting a blade and rubbers for a new bat this can be a challenge for parents, players and coaches. – Although Bill is always available to provide advice on best options on equipment, he wanted to put something down on paper to give the club player’s and coaches a better understanding of what can be an expensive and complex task. – He has great knowledge of this specific area having completed extensive trials on bats and rubbers at his own expensive and interest for sometime now. – Watch out for documents appearing soon on EKTTC App. – Many thanks to Bill for taking the time to provide this source of information.

Friday Club Night – Another good session on Friday night. – Some of the younger players at the club with the support of Brendan and Chris have made good progress since they first came along to the club. – We are very pleased with their commitment, how well they have settled into a club environment and more importantly how much they seem to be enjoying themselves. – At the moment the club is doing it’s best to try and find another venue to reinstate two club night’s a week. – We will keep you posted. – Thanks to Brendan, Chris and Robbie for their support.

– Club nights have been cancelled for 24th Dec, 31st Dec and 7th January 2022. – All being well the club will return on Friday 14th January 2022.
Club Fees – As a result of the sports centre closing 3 sessions over festive period. – I would ask club members to stop payment of club fees for the month of January. – Understandably a few members have decided not to attend until they feel it is safe to do so. – If those members could arrange to stop your club fees and advise me when they plan to do so that would be good. – We appreciate you will support us on your return.

EKTTC Coaches Meeting – Wednesday 24th November – On Wednesday night the club coaches discussed the feedback on our recent club survey. – The response to the survey was very positive and the coaches appreciate the kind words that were expressed. – As a result of survey and feedback we have slightly altered the format for future Friday club night sessions which will allow for more game time.
Video/ Photography – Please note that only club coaches have the consent to video or photograph club members at the club night or any other TT event. – Under current Safeguarding guidelines the club coaches have to ensure that any video/photos are only taken on club devices.
