Hi everyone

Club Meeting

• Many thanks to everyone who attended our club meeting on Monday night.
• Great work going on behind the scenes to improve the structure and development of our players and club.

Volunteers are not paid– not because they are worthless, but because they are priceless. 

Intro to Table Tennis course

• Unfortunately due to poor weather conditions we were unable to go ahead with our planned Introduction to TT course for 25 pupils at local schools.
• The course will be rescheduled as quickly as possible by Active Schools.
  

Stephen Gertsen

• Great session from Stephen and well done to the players who responded.
• The players are working hard and will need to continue to do so to meet the challenges set out by our National coach.
• We look forward to Stephen’s next visit.
  

AGM

• The club’s Annual General Meeting (AGM) normally takes place in December each year.
• However, this has been a little bit problematic as the club’s financial year runs to the end of December and we are never able to share our final accounts at the AGM.
• To resolve this,it has been proposed to change the date of our AGM to the end of January each year to allow for a complete year end report to be shared with members.
• This proposal was accepted and approved by the club’s Management Committee.
• So, the next AGM will take place in late January 2019 – we will share the precise date & time when we have the booking confirmed.
• Note: This will require a change to the Club Constitution which will be formally endorsed by members at the AGM.
  

Tuesday club night

• Please note that Euan, Chris and Robbie Maitland will organise session on Tuesday night in my absence.
  

Friday club night

• This week we will see the return of the league ladder/s. l look forward another frantic night of challenge requests.

• Good luck to Achint Makesh who will play his first match for 44th BB this week in WOS Senior League.

Peoples Project 2019

• Thanks to Brendan and Ewan who have put together a small video which we will share on our website this week.
• The video will show our ambitious development plans and the structure we hope to put in place if we are successful with our Peoples Project application.

Training Camp

• Delighted with players response at training camp on Saturday.
• Thanks to everyone for their effort and attendance.

UWS

• Brendan has successfully recruited two UWS students to our club after two presentations to students at the campus last week.
• We offered students the opportunity of a UKCC 1 level course in return for their commitment to our club development programme.
• Also delighted to announce that club player Erin Shepherd has also agreed to join the UWS students on this course.
• We now have going forward potentially 6 new UKCC Level 1 coaches which is fantastic.
  

Stephen Gertsen UKCC Level 4 Coach 

• Looking forward to Stephen Gertsen visiting the club this coming Friday 21st September 2018.
• Players to arrive for 7pm prompt.
• Stephen is a former Welsh international player and Scotland’s National Coach.  www.stephengertsen.co.uk
• Last year he visited the club 3 times and not only inspired the players but also the coaches.

Introduction to TT course at Calderglen High Sschool Wed 4-6pm

• Hoping for a good response from 5th year pupils in EK and Strathaven schools.
• We hope these students will help us build a good foundation for table tennis in our local area.
• Looking forward to it!!!

• Players should bring plenty to drink with them to ensure they remain hydrated throughout session.
• Thanks to Jennie this week for three excellent drills on topspin and a fun game of Hot Seat which all the players enjoyed.
• Chris will take the session next week on footwork .

Introduction to TT course at Calderglen High School Wed 4-6pm

• We would like club players who play at junior league and pupils at EK High schools to assist at Calderglen High School on Wednesday 19th September.
• 5th year Pupils from all East Kilbride & Strathaven high schools will participate in an Introduction to Table Tennis course at Calderglen High School from 4-6pm.
• If you are available so support the coaches and attendees on above date, please let Peter or Brendan know ASAP.
  
• This is a great development opportunity for you and the club.

Linda Fabiani MSP

• Delighted that Linda Fabiani MSP came along to club night on Friday and tested her Table Tennis skills against Chris 🙂
• She also met up with players and coaches and took the opportunity to find out more about our club and its future plans.

Tuesday Club Night

• Club night restarts on Tuesday 14th August at JWSC Hall 3 from 7pm-9pm.
  

Club Development Plan

• As part of our club development plan, Brendan and Chris have organised an Introduction to Table Tennis course for the East Kilbride and Strathaven Sports Leader Academy group.
• We anticipate that 20-30 S5 pupils will take this course in September.
• The main objective is to have after school clubs in local schools organised and supported by students and pupils supported by the club.

We were delighted to welcome Linda Fabiani MSP to the club tonight – our first night back after the summer break.

Linda, a player in her youth, stayed with us for our first hour and we even got her playing for a bit…a wicked backhand I must say!

Linda was delighted to hear about our plans for the club and meet some of the team and club members.
